A question asked by Chris: What banks offer Private Student Loans for College Students without a Co-signer?
I am a senior in college and I am a college student. I need to find a bank where they do not require a Co-signer to take out a Private Student Loan? I have no credit because I’m still a student however am about to graduate college but just need a little help.. Please, anyone who knows of a Bank other than Bank of America and Chase please help me out. Thank you so much for you time and consideration.

There is no bank that will give a private loan to someone with no credit without a cosigner. That would be too high of a risk.

A question from ats5021: What banks or other credible organizations will help consolidate federal student loans?
I recently graduated from college with $ 131,000 in student debt. I have obtained a full-time job but am only making about $ 2,000/month. As it stands right now my monthly payments will be greater than my income (excluding any type of rent or other living expenses). I desperately am in need of some sort of consolidation product that would lower my monthly payment at this time.

Start out by investigating the Federal Direct Consolidation Loan program – the federal loan consolidation division of the US Department of Education. You can find the information and application for this loan here: https://loanconsolidation.ed.gov/AppEntry/apply-online/appindex.jsp

Start with the menu along the lefthand side of the page – there’s helpful advice on the whole process “Should I consolidate?”, “How Do I Benefit”, and “What Loans Can I Consolidate” among other topics.

You can’t get any more “credible” than the Department of Education, right? Good luck!

is the governement the only one who can give out student loans, and not banks anymore
also can anyone provide cons and pros for this?
ive read that one con is that this basically gives the gov the incentive to deny certain aspects of education to individuals

Student loans are now through the government. The government believes this should reduce the cost of the loans.

Question posed by Dominique: What lenders offer private student loans, when the school isn’t on the banks loan list?
I found an art school that i want to go to, but they don’t accept financial aid and i can afford to pay the tuition on my own. Most of the banks i have looked at have a school list that they offer private loans too, and my school is not on any of the lists. So I was wondering if anybody knew of any lenders that don’t have a school list and are open to all colleges/ technical schools (Sf bay area)

A question from KristenM: Is it possible to consolidate student loans that come from different banks? And how would I do that?
I have undergrad student loans from one bank that I consolidated, and then graduate student loans from another bank. I am graduating in August and at that point I would like to have them all consolidated so I am not paying 3 different people each month.

It is possible but, be careful about it. I could jack up your interest rates. Just talk to your loan officer at either bank and explain your situation and they should be able to help you.
