The House Education and Labor Committee holds an investigative hearing into student loan practices with New York Attorney General Cuomo, who has been leading the effort to ***** down on what he views as “predatory lending.” Here Cuomo gives his opening remarks explaining how abuse in student lending occurs.

Here is another reason to shop around and do your own research when looking at applying for student loans.
Once you find a good one, take out as little as you can as well – it will help you out in the future.
If you have to borrow money to go to college, don’t go. It is a huge waste of time and money.
the student loan system is a scam. Why cant the usa just guarantee its people a college education and stop whining. Finland did it. These kkk ran trade schools are charigin 10k to learn office. KKK consolidation companies are running shams the feds pay off the loans and they buy the debt quadruple dipping off the same loan that the gov paid off 4 times and the company get s paid and the the gov and the borrower get screwed
Ironic. He gives SUNY a clean bill of health while condemning state schools of OTHER states and private schools in and outside NYS – claiming he found no wrongdoing by SUNY officials.
THEN he admits he COULDN’T investigate SUNY for any allegations because to do so would be a ‘conflict of interest’
Typical. I’ll bet he’d find nothing wrong with Spitzer’s banking – but the FBI did.
If NYS’ AG and the US Attorney refuse to investigate SUNY’s crimes against students – who will?
Why doesn’t he talk about all the kick backs to him. He is just as dirty as any lender!
Lenders loosing business? Should I lugh or cry. These landers are backed by government, as in if you dont pay due to unfortunate circumstances, at best your debt tripples and future wages are gurnished, at the worst all of you are assets are taken away. And till this day the practise still goes on. No action taken by government except the one that makes it even harder on students, this is all just one big giant crap.
OK Mr Justice. What about those of us who blew the whistle on (grade) fraud and (verbal/sexual) abuse of young female students by middle-aged male faculty and were then denied financial aid – citing erroneous application of the ‘SAP’ statute?
student loans are ****! yeah!
Typical acts to increase one’s presence in the media before an election. This is so untrue! Wide-range? Please.
Who cares? No one can pass high school anymore with no child left behind.
Typical bu$h administration inaction.
This should be a bigger scandal than the attorney firings.
