Question posed by : I need some legal advice. Does anyone out there know if you can file bankruptsy on private student loans?
I know that you cannot on federal loans but these were private loans and did not have to be approved by the college I was attending. I really do not want to do this but I am really financially strapped right now. Would appreciate any advice.

Question by young professional: Where can I find debt consolidation for “private” student loans?
I am a young professional that is over my head in private student loan debt and credit card debt. I have found several companies willing to help me with my credit card debt but no luck with the private student loan debt because it is not considered “secured” debt. My interest rates on these loans are over 20% making my monthly payments total $ 700. Because I have credit problems in the past I am considered a “high risk” thus unable to get the banks to reduce my interest rate.
Does anyone know of an agency that is willing to help people with “private” student loan debt? I am looking for some type of debt consolidation that would reduce my interest rate and lower my monthly payment. Please keep in mind these are private student loans not government loans. Thanks in advance!

A great visual look at the subject of government student loans.
Read: hosted.ap.org Calling people who have defaulted on their student or any other government loan whether it be on the land line or mobile phone will not generate any additional tax revenue when those people do not have jobs and are not paying because they cannot pay. This just goes to show how truly disconnected our so called leaders are.
A question from boston_grl: Who should I consolidate my Private Student Loans with?
I have some Undergraduate Student loans with AES and their rates keep going up and they are not great with customer service. I am wondering what is a good company to consolidate my private student loans with. I want good terms (as in deferment in school. etc.) Please help who has gone through this process.
Thanks in advance =)

Question posed by Ella: Are federal student loans considered federal AID?
If your federal aid (grants and such) is currently suspended due to an academic progress hold, does that hold include loans or can you still apply for the loan through fafsa and receive it since you’ll be paying for it eventually?
Most detailed answer:
Answer by A J Federal student loans are considered aid. I’ve always thought that was stupid since a loan isn’t aid in my book, it’s a loan which must be paid back with interest. That’s not aid, that’s profiteering.
But sorry, you’ll need to get your grades up to be privileged enough to pay twice the actual cost to get an education.
