Question posed by Huntsman: Does the government really hand out salie mae loans for schools such as cosmotology?
Federal loans for things like cosmotology, nail tech, massage therapy?

I find this hard to believe since these are private schools (for profit).
I asked in education and just got spam answers about loans (hundreds of them)- no one is there.
Anyone in this section know for sure?

This is NOT a personal question. I am not interested in attending nail tech school and making government student loans to pay for it.

Usually Public schools a TAFE Collleges (possibly private schools) can apply for funding for a new course if that school has sufficient interest from students. I think the minimum number of students required is six. The school would have to submit a requisite form to the Education Department or the governing body that provides funding for such courses.

The school would also have to provide their own teacher for the course and that teachers’ income would be paid from the funding. I think the funding, or grant, ranges from $ 10,000 to $ 50,000 depending on the length of the course, what text books or incidentals or course materials are needed (like a telescope or make up or electronics etc), and whether external visits outside of the school is required.

The funding doesn’t last long and students may be required to pay extra fees for the course and course material.

I only found one link and though it is in Australia, it may provide addtional helpful information.

Question posed by Violet: Can delinquient student loans be consolidated with credit consolidators?
Or anything of the sort. I’m trying to pay off old student loans but there are a lot of them. How can I make it easier to make just one monthly payment? Thanks.

Answer by js_dzr
I work for a top student loan company in the United States (Nelnet) and I would recommend calling the Department of Education to consolidate the loans. This would fix your interest rate and lower you rmonthly payments. However, the payments are lower because the term is extended on the loans, so you actually will end up paying a lot more in the long run. If this is a short term situation and you know that you will be having a higher income in the future, stick with what you have now. However, if you are working in a field where the income will not get any higher, then you will want to go ahead and consolidate with Direct Loans. Their website is www.loanconsolidation.ed.gov

Question by ****: I have ,000 in Federal Student loans and ,000 in Private Student loans. I have my Bachelors Degree and?
would like to go back to school for Dental Hygiene. That would be another $ 20,000 – $ 25,000 in student loans. I would be able to borrow some from the federal loans but I would need to take out a private student loan as well. Is this a good idea?

A question from moffhawk: Are there other options to get student loans besides the government?
I have been in college for awhile now. The problem is that I made some mistakes when I was younger that have left me, according to my school’s policy, unable to attain student loans. My credit is not great. With student loans I would be able to finish my degree and upgrade my computer and invest in my future career. What, if anything, can I do? How viable are private student loans? The cushion of not having to pay until I’m finished with school is huge.

The No 1 answer:

Answer by Tee M
You can get outside alternative loans (also called collegiate or signature loans) by contacting lenders. Each lender has different criteria for loans but I’m sure they have deferments for being enrolled in school at least half time. Having a co-signer would help on that too.

If the reason for not being able to get financial aid is due to your academic progress, see if your school has a way to appeal their decision if you haven’t already done so.
